Last month my friend, who is a bachelor and a party animal, by the way, went to Goa and came back looking like he went for a vacation to his parent’s house. I asked him if there was no party in Goa at this time, he laughed and said that this time he stayed at a home stay and didn’t feel that he was away from home.
Home away from home…we all love that feeling when we go out of our own houses. Even on vacations, nothing can beat that feeling of staying in a homely environment. Though Goa is the party capital of the country many would like the feeling of returning to a home-like place after the party.
Here is a list of home stays in Goa that you should stay at irrespective of the season:

Road trips have always been quite popular. People have various reasons for embarking on road trips. For some it’s more convenient especially if you have a kid, others do it because of the independence. Whatever the reason maybe, a road trip to Goa from Bangalore should be experienced at least once.
The shortest route between Bangalore to Panjim is via the NH 48 and covers a distance of 560 kilometers. This route, unfortunately, has no scenic beauty that should always be a part of a road trip especially to goa..to make it memorable.
Bangalore to Panjim via Shimoga-Honavar NH 206 and Karvar NH66 NH 17
If you decide to drive to Goa just after the monsoons then head out on this route. You can visit the famous Jog Falls (in Shimoga) and Karvar en-route. Though it’s almost 100kms longer compared to the NH 48 one, this route is a treat for your eyes before hitting the party capital of India.
This route isn’t a common one but it has many pit stops that are worth visiting. Mulayangiri which is the highest peak in Karnataka, in the Baba Budangiri range, is on this route. The view from this peak is mesmerizing and you can see miles of green.
The Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is the next pit stop on this route. Located on the Tunga and Bhadra river this is part of Project Tiger.
Next stop, Jog Falls which is also the country’s second largest plunge waterfalls. If you’ve taken the route post monsoon, like we mentioned, then you can see the falls in its full glory.
Last but not the least is Karvar along the coast of Mangalore. Its pristine and serene beaches makes you want to just stare into the endless coastline. After visiting these beautiful places you drive to your final destination Panjim.
Bangalore to Panjim via Hubli NH48 and Dharwad NH48
Chittradurga (about 200kms on NH48) is famous for its rocky hills and fort. You’ll find a stone fort here with circular walls, oil cauldrons, and massive grinding stones.
The story of Onake Obbava does the rounds here. She was a fearless soldiers’ wife who prevented Hyder Ali’s men from entering the fort, all by herself.
The Rannebennur Blackbuck deer sanctuary is also part of this route about 100km from Chitradurga on SH 46. This sanctuary has been chosen to protect the Blackbuck deer and the Great Indian Bustard. You can also get to see the wolf at this sanctuary.
As you proceed Northwest towards Panjim the Madhei National Park and the Doodh Sagar falls are also en-route. The Doodhsagar falls has white water rafting during monsoons and should not be missed.
The places on the way shouldn’t be compared to your destination, Goa. But if you take one of the alternate routes, either while heading to Goa or on your way back to Bangalore you can enjoy a whole lot more in a single trip.
Whichever route you take, drive responsibly and take in the surroundings. Bon Voyage!
